The UV index in Colombia and how to protect yourself
Because it lies near the equator — and because of the altitude of cities like Bogotá — the UV index in Colombia is high all year round, even on cloudy or cool days.
What each level means
- 0–2 low · 3–5 moderate · 6–7 high
- 8–10 very high · 11+ extreme
In the Andean region it is common to exceed level 11 around midday.
How to protect yourself
- Use SPF 30+ sunscreen and reapply every two hours.
- Wear a hat and UV-filter sunglasses.
- Seek shade between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Check the day's UV index on your city page before going out.
