Cold fronts and "nortes" in Honduras

In the dry season, the cold fronts sweeping down from North America reach the Caribbean coast of Honduras (the "nortes").

What they bring

Although the dry season is sunny across most of the country, on the north coast (La Ceiba, Tela, Trujillo) and the Bay Islands the nortes bring rain, wind and heavy seas, sometimes for several days.

Watch the wind direction and the alerts: a norte means rain and rough seas in the Caribbean. If you are heading to the coast or the islands, check the forecast and the sea conditions before you go.
