Rainy season and the canícula in Honduras

Being in the tropics, Honduras has no warm and cold seasons, but two periods defined by rain.

"Invierno" and "verano"

The rainy season ("invierno") runs May to October, with afternoon downpours. The dry season ("verano"), November to April, is sunnier. The Caribbean coast gets rain for much of the year.

The canícula

Midway through the rainy season, usually in July and August, comes the canícula: a few drier, hotter weeks. In the southern "dry corridor" (Choluteca, Valle), droughts hit crops. More than the temperature, it is worth watching the day's chance of rain.
