Heat, humidity and the UV index in Nicaragua

Heat, humidity and the UV index in Nicaragua

On Nicaragua's Pacific side — especially in Managua — it is hot almost all year, and humidity pushes up the feels-like temperature. The northern mountains (Matagalpa, Jinotega, Estelí) are cooler.

How to protect yourself from the heat

  • Drink water throughout the day, even if you are not thirsty.
  • Avoid the sun and exertion between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Keep an eye on children and older adults.

UV index

Being in the tropics, the UV index is high almost all year. Use sunscreen, a hat and UV-filter sunglasses, and check the day's UV index, especially at the beach or the lake.
