Storms, tropical depressions and flooding in El Salvador
Although it rarely takes a direct hurricane hit, El Salvador does suffer very intense rain from storms and tropical depressions, mainly between June and October.
Flooding and landslides
Heavy rain causes river rises, flooding and landslides, dangerous on volcanic slopes and in urban areas like Greater San Salvador. The volcanic terrain raises the risk.
How to prepare
- Follow the alerts from MARN and Civil Protection.
- Avoid gullies, rivers and low-lying areas during heavy rain.
- Follow the radar to see how long the rain may last.
