The climate of the coast and the mountains in El Salvador

In El Salvador, the climate changes mainly with altitude, between the hot coast and the cooler mountains.

Coast, valleys and mountains

• Pacific coast (La Libertad, El Tunco, La Unión): hot all year, with famous surf beaches.
• Central valleys (San Salvador, Santa Tecla): temperate, cool at night.
• Northern and western mountains (Apaneca, Cerro El Pital): cool, with cold in the highest areas.

What to bring

If you move between the coast and the mountains, be ready for temperature changes: at night the highlands can be cold even when the coast is hot.
