Heat waves in Mexico: symptoms, prevention and what to do
Between March and June, before the rains, Mexico sees heat waves with temperatures above 40 °C in the north, the Bajío and the Yucatán Peninsula.
Signs of heatstroke
Headache, dizziness, hot and dry skin, nausea or confusion. It is an emergency: call 911, move the person into the shade and cool them with water.
How to protect yourself
- Drink water throughout the day, even if you are not thirsty.
- Avoid the sun and exertion between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
- Never leave children or pets inside a car.
- Check the temperature, the feels-like value and the UV index before heading out.
