AEMET weather warnings: what the colours mean

AEMET, Spain's national weather agency, issues weather warnings for phenomena such as rain, wind, snow, heat, cold or storms. They are graded by colour according to the risk.

What each colour means

  • Green: no significant weather risk.
  • Yellow: risk; a common phenomenon worth keeping in mind.
  • Orange: significant risk; an uncommon, dangerous phenomenon.
  • Red: extreme risk; an exceptional phenomenon with very high danger.

What to do

With an orange or red warning, avoid non-essential travel and follow Civil Protection's instructions. Check the warnings and the radar before heading out.
