The cool climate of the Cordillera Central and Constanza
Although the Dominican Republic is a tropical island, the climate in the Cordillera Central is very different: cool all year and, at times, genuinely cold.
Constanza and Jarabacoa
Mountain towns like Constanza and Jarabacoa, at high altitude, have an eternal-spring climate. On the coldest winter nights there can be frost — surprising for the Caribbean — affecting crops of vegetables, flowers and coffee.
What to bring
If you head up into the mountains, take warm clothing even if it is hot on the coast: the temperature difference between sea level and altitude is large, especially at night.
