Heat, humidity and the UV index in Costa Rica
On Costa Rica's coasts — Guanacaste, Puntarenas, Limón — it is hot and humid almost all year, which pushes up the feels-like temperature. The Central Valley (San José) is cooler.
How to protect yourself from the heat
- Drink water throughout the day, even if you are not thirsty.
- Avoid the sun and exertion between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
- Keep an eye on children and older adults.
UV index
Being in the tropics, the UV index is high almost all year. Use sunscreen, a hat and UV-filter sunglasses, and check the day's UV index, especially at the beach.
