Snow in the Andes and frost in Chile

In winter, frontal systems drop snow on the Andes, vital for the ski resorts (Valle Nevado, Portillo, La Parva) and for the water supply the rest of the year.

Snow and mountain passes

Heavy snowfall can close international passes such as Los Libertadores (towards Mendoza). If you are heading to the mountains, check the snow forecast and the road conditions.

Frost in the valley

In the central valley, autumn and winter frosts affect fruit and vineyards. The greatest risk is at dawn, under clear skies and calm wind: watch the forecast minimum temperature.
